Anybody who has ever used a computer or been on the internet knows how powerful and fun it can be. They probably also know how expensive, complicated and frustrating it can all be at the same time.
Is there a better way?
Can an ordinary person get the benefits of a computer and the internet without all the pain and hassle?
Thats what Vern Kennedy asked himself. He realized that the hassle of having a computer comes from the design of the computer itself. The PC was designed as a powerful, standalone machine for a work environment where there are lots of technical folks around to help users. When a home gets a computer, they are actually getting a computer made for work, but without all those technical folks to help them out.
Vern realized that if you hosted the most complicated and costly parts of a computer in a centrally managed location and simply sent a computer screen to a user when they needed it, that would make the whole thing a lot simpler and less expensive. And best of all, it would use the power of the internet to make it all happen. Instead of buying a computer as a one time expense, people could subscribe to a computer in the same way they subscribe to the internet. And users could enjoy all of the benefits of a computer and an internet connection while the hosting center folks did all of the work!
And that was the idea that started it all.
Vern was the founder of a successful telecom company, Broadview Networks, with Dr. John Crowley. John had proven his ability to perform software alchemy with Broadview's legendary back-office systems, so Vern knew that if there was anyone who could help tackle the technical challenges in designing a new computer and turn the idea into reality it was “The Good Doctor”. Dr. Crowley is the Chief Technology Officer at ScreenPC. Shortly thereafter, they called Vijay Das, who also worked at Broadview and had been responsible for the design and commercialization of new products. Known as “The Anthropologist”, Vijay was just the guy to make sure that the service was a good fit for what people needed and he is the Chief Marketing Officer at ScreenPC.
ScreenPC was born to “Re-Imagine the home computer”.
If you want to know what the nimbus cloud computer is all about you need to ask a couple of questions about the computer.
- What if it was so affordable that loads more people could get one? And why stop at one if your home needs two or more?
- What if it was so simple to use that novices could just start using it right away?
- What if you didn't have to sacrifice performance for ease-of-use and lower price?
- What if it was better for the environment?
- What if it never needed an upgrade?
- What if you did not need to pay extra for anti-virus or back-ups?
- What if it could turn on in an instant?
The nimbus cloud computer was created to make all these “what ifs?” possible.
